The P-51D, the „Cadillac of the skyes“ - such a graceful fighter. The swiss air force bought 130 used ones from the americans at the end of WWII. They where sold for a few thousand Dollars each. When they reached the end of life, the swiss airforce scraped them or used them as targets to shoot at with their Vampires, Venoms and Hunters (this really hurts to know). Today they would be worth millions of Dollars and many collectors would gladly buy and restore them or at leas use them as source for spare parts…
