Trivia: Why are the pants and blouse different shades of blue? Answer: The blouse was rarely worn; it was kept rolled up in your kit, hence, the blouse remained the color it was when the uniform was issued, but the pants faded in the sun. You could always tell which soldiers were green newbies, because their blouse and pants were still the same shade of blue. Today we honor the original cavalry with our dress blues being a dark blue for the outer coat, while the pants are a lighter blue.
