Yeah, I don't believe that is a stock grill. Looks custom made to me. My Uncle had a 4 door sedan this year, I believe. He got it from his sister when she passed away. My cousins used to drive all over the country in it. Nice old car with lots of room. Nice photo!

that is what made me have doubts about the Chevy. it did not match 47 Chevy's grille. they may have took a 47 Chevy pickup grille and massaged it a whole lot

I think I am suffering from 'overposer' as when I see an awesome shot like this my mind goes to 'how can I get such super bodywork reflections in my models... very sad... unlike this excellently maintained machine

My uncle had this car, it is a 1946 Chevrolet. I've ridden in it many times. That is why the grille is rounded. It was the first car produced after the end of WW2, and was really a 1941 Chevy, made from the molds they had left over when they had to convert to war production to make planes and tanks. It had "Blue Flame" 6 cylinder engine, which did not have pressurized oil lubrication, but rather had "splash lubrication." In other words, lubrication depended on the pistons and crankshaft splashing the oil around enough internally to throw some up to the valves at the top of the engine. Apparently, it worked well enough, but kinda crude by today's standards. At any rate, it was a very dependable car.

thanks for the information. the grille did not look right. I had a 50 Chevrolet Fleetline and or fast back, but it had a 53 overhead valves six that out ran some V8's . I would love to have another one

Too bad we don't make cars like this anymore. Beautiful, flowing lines, and built like tanks. So much class - and this one's a beauty. Great find and photo, Richard.
