Finally, she saw Wendy come running around the corner of the house. “Sorry!” Wendy called out as she ran toward Dorothy.
Dorothy could not believe her eyes. “What in the name o' Holy Jesus sorta git-up are you wearin' girl?!?” Dorothy began to laugh out loud, which soon gave way to guffaws that caused her to double over, tears streaming from her eyes.
Wendy stopped, folded her arms across her chest and gave Dorothy a look that said she was both offended and disappointed. “For your information, Peasant Girl, I am properly attired and equipped for an equestrian outing!”
“A what outing?”
“Equestrian. Surely you know the word?”
“What is it?”
As if she were a college professor lecturing to a classroom of first-day freshmen, Wendy replied, “Equus, from the High Latin term for 'horse.' Or perhaps you're more familiar with the Vulgar Latin word 'caballus'?”
“Oh, caballo,” Dorothy said, pronouncing it as Nacito would. “Like caballero.”
“I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that term...”
At that moment, Wendy faded into the background as, about 50 yards away, Ignacio on horseback crossed Dorothy's field of vision...
