Description
The "Angel's Ladies" has been closed for several years and none of these "angels" have been around for a long time. But people from the area report that every now and then quite different "angels" have been spotted around the old wreck of the Beechcraft D-18, coming along in fiery red chariots, enjoying the sunset and the last warm rays of the day....!
I accidentally came across this diorama-like 3D scene on Sketchfab (sketchfab.com/3d-models/plane-crash-by-a-brothel-in-nevada-9931703442a14a3db2cd53c368706c64) which was created by Azad Balabanian using photo modeling and made available for free download. Sketchfab has many free models created using this methodology and many of them are quite good from a distance, but are not suitable for use in DAZ-Studio (or Poser) due to their coarse resolution and the often low-resolution textures, or only as filler for the background. But some of them are surprisingly good - even if you zoom in a bit closer (like this model here). I made the scanned bushes more or less "ground level" with a dformer and put some bushes and grasses from ShaaraMuse3D in their place to get the necessary details for a closer view. Finally I deleted some floating artifacts from the mesh.
The only problem with this type of model (especially outdoor objects) is that all the shadows from the time of day the object was shot are baked into the textures. Often the programs that then create the model from the hundreds of photos create a rather confused and fragmented UV map, which makes retexturing actually impossible. In my case, since the photos for this model were taken in the evening and the objects cast shadows on themselves, I also had to recreate the sunset for the lighting so that the shadows would be congruent with those of the texture. Advantage of this kind of models: The renderings look extremely vividly because of the baked-in shadows - even without bump and normal maps.
For the background with the mountains I took a desert scene from DAZ3d (see credits).
About the history of the real airplane, sitting there in Nevada the Internet knows the following to report:
"In what must have seemed like a good idea at the time, the owners of the brothel promoted an interesting challenge with a very naughty prize. A mattress would be placed in the center of a large star painted on the desert floor-if one were to parachute out of an airplane (airplane provided) and land on the mattress, they would be the lucky winner of a night with the lady of his choice, on the house!
Unsurprisingly, things went horribly wrong. Long story short, scantily-clad women plus distracted, inexperienced pilot plus heavy cross winds equal the plane plummeting straight into the ground. Luckily no one was hurt in the accident, and the clever owners decided that the wreck was enough of a spectacle to attract people from the road, so there it stayed..."

Thanks for the great details on the background story, and the image itself ... always appreciated. Whatever convoluted journey led you to this final image, it is outstanding. Kudos!

Well, I have to say you did a really magnificent job with this - interesting - tourist trap, mate! A great render, and a fascinating history as well. As they say, "one man's junk is another man's treasure..." Or something like that.. LOL
You definitely made the best of those baked-in shadows.. 👍

There is a lot to discover and admire in this great scene in the desert. What fun, the charming lady has an American flag bikini, anyway a lot of details are in it and really has to be seen in full size. p.s. so nice you visited Holland and liked it here. We now live in the south, but my husband comes from Enkhuizen - Hoorn. ;-)
