Description

This isn't a title, it's a request. My DAZ application is crashed and I am having a bear of a time recovering. The problem is that content no longer loads. and Instead the Application freezes. The problem has to do with loading content into an empty scene. This weekend I discovered something suddenly seems to have went south. When I went to load a figure, my times to load an item have become impossible. Like the Application seems frozen. This occurs with figures taking 15, 30, never minutes with the load process stuck at : Reading Asset > Deleting Objects. With simple geometry props the time can be like 5 minutes before this situations clears. it is strictly a file access issue as once all is loaded the application acts totally normal in moving or rendering. I have reached out to some of you already but any suggestion is acceptable. Thanks for being a great community. Oh yeah, i have logged a ticket with DAZ but have yet to receive any feedback. At any rate I have a lot of stuff I have never posted so I'll be posting as normal. As always thanks for the views and the friendship. BTW...Poser works just fine (Wink).

Did you try posting over at the Daz forums on their site? Someone might have some insight, since the forums seem to be full of unpaid volunteer "tech support."

Comments are open for this render and will be posted here since it might help others.

Yes , there is speculation abound about this very behavior. In fact it seems to be a common theme that DAZ morphs run wild and with each item you add to your content folder that has morphs included they all get put into your application and loaded regardless of the character they are for. DAZ has not replied that excess morphs could be a problem and might not.

Another lead is that defective hardware may be a cause. Out of this mess I am getting a 2TB disk replaced under warranty so its not all bad. I doubt that is going to fix the issue but who turns down 2 TBs.

Wonderful image. (I avoid DAZ except tor content. But wild speculation is that the empty scene really isn't empty and is full of some kind of garbage that doesn't display and the program is trying to delete it and can't. So is there any way to blow away the so called empty scene that loads by default.)

Unfortunately No, not that I know of. . DAZ loads, by default, a scene with 1 Genesis character. Really minimal geometry. The problem arises when the user attempts to load any content really. Even low poly items take longer than they should to load. Like on the order of minutes for a 'primitive cube.'

No, you can create your own default opening scene.
Edit > Preferences> Start up>
You can uncheck everything but Load File has an option to "Load None"
There is an option to restore factory defaults on the Interface page that may or may not help.
Good luck!!
Lovely Lass and Her pet with the big stick! ;)

Thanks for the tip. This is turning into a very useful sharing of thought. That makes the frustration factor of downed DAZ meaningful in that folks can read and learn as we talk.

Nice work! The posing on the dragon is great and the Godrays!

I have DS load with an empty scene.

When I had Octane enabled, it would take a long time to clear the scene. At first I thought it had froze, but it was still active in the task manager. And then I found out you just had to wait a good while for it to return to life. I have disabled Octane and don't have the issue anymore.

I have almost ever male character Daz has released and many female characters too. It takes 3-5 minutes for G8M character to load. Maybe it's longer. Maybe it's shorter. Seems like forever sometimes, but not as long as you describe.

A long while ago, I had to add Daz and the database to my antivirus so that it was allowed through the firewall. Did you change your anti-virus? Maybe you need to do that. I did however check my antivirus just now and there is nothing listed as being permitted through the firewall anymore. There used to be firefox, and other things that they automatically allowed through and I had to add DS and the database to that list. But maybe they whitelisted all those things. Or maybe they changed how they admin those things. Or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place. I also run Malwarebytes and don't have the issue you describe. But I've seen on the Daz forum that some anti-viruses block some files. So something to try.

Maybe youe DS app got corrupted. Maybe try uninstalling/re-installing. If you don't have the latest version, you could just upgrade. I think when you upgrade it uninstalled the old version and then installs the new version.

Have you checked your drive for errors? I have DS on my C drive which is a solid state and all my content on an external regular drive.

I think I would try adding it to your anti-virus first. I can't remember which anti-virus was a problem. Maybe Avast (or something like that.) I use Webroot.

Do you have content on more than one drive? If so, are they both slow at loading?

Not thinking of anything else just now.

Thanks, you shared a lot of interesting thoughts I will work through. I get the new drive on Thursday but I will be really surprised if that is the culprit. Although, years of debugging has taught me that no stone can be left un-turned when it comes to some debugs.

I didn't realize you didn't start with an empty scene..I may have set it that way ages ago but I think I have always had it load empty of everything except a camera. Sounds like that opening scene itself may be corrupt. ooo 2 TB disk! Yes, the morphs seem to live on their own in the Shaping tab--you may be able to just delete them in file explorer if you have ones you don't need.

(I think the dragon has a crush on Miss Mage)

Nice work on this.

I don't know what to tell you about Daz Studio. I've never had any problem like that and I don't know what would cause it. I'm not much of a tech person, though. I hope you get it worked out!

I've always had trouble with DAZ studio it's one of the reasons I mostly use Vue which at least allows me so much more freedom on where stuff goes so I can find it .on the occasions I do use DAZ studio mostly to export stuff for use in Vue DAZ opens up with an empty scene,so it can be done but I don't remember how I'm afraid. Your scene is looking very good I like the background, and your dragon is looking impressive

I trust you are well on your way to resolving your Daz issue. I'd be impossible to live with if it happened to me! Such a lovely piece and you don't need to be messed around by Daz. Their response to tickets is abysmal!

daggerwilldo

7:23PM | Tue, 11 May 2021

You get the honor of being the latest to respond so you get the update in hopes that those reading and trying to help get this info:

The System Diagnostics pointed to a bad RAID disk (I/O Error). So I did some testing to see what happened between DAZ LOAD sequence and Task Manager Disk Monitor.

When I induce the slow load error that offending disk immediately goes 100% fully active in task manager,. while DAZ is reporting 'Reading Asset." Offending disk has no content on it. In fact it was reformatted as a precaution to having it removed and hauled away. For the full time DAZ was hung the offending disk was 100% Activity showing average response times of (get this) 2000+ Msec. As soon as DAZ loaded the disk went back to 0% activity.

Geeks of the world reading this. 'Whaddaya' Think this means?

A very very cool image! I love the dragon! The lady looks great as well.

As to your problems with DAZ, I would have pulled out my last hair by now had it happened to me. I don't use DAZ not for any particular reason other than I have found it very hard for my little pea brain to figure out and every time there was a update, I had trouble reloading ore even finding content. This is from several years ago and I haven't tried it again since. I sure hope you are able to get a fix for your problems! Nothing worse than software that doesn't work properly! Fingers crossed for your success in solving your dilemma!

Very good work on this image, she looks like she can handle that dragon very well. As for DS I don't use it & had nothing but trouble way back when I did try it. I will stick with Poser & when they quit making stuff for Poser I'll just retire from 3D or just work with the huge amount of Poser stuff I have bought over my 12 years using that program & I'm too old to learn new programs
