Description
Charles Washington, the owner of a small gymnasium in Los Angeles, saw his neighborhood being ruined by elements of organized crime. Determined to put a stop to it, he made himself a costume and took to the streets in 1937 as Gangbuster, the first masked hero on the West Coast. Although he has no actual superpowers, Charles Washington is a champion acrobat and boxer, a combination that allowed him to take on criminals and win. His crusade was more successful than he'd hoped and led not only to a sharp reduction in crime, but also to the removal from office of corrupt Los Angeles mayor Frank Shaw.
I decided it's been too long since I posted one of my superhero pictures. As usual, I thought that illustration style fits the genre better than trying for something more photoreal.

Hey, was Charles Washington a real guy or was this story made up?
Fine image that really captures the feel of the good, old superhero comics of the 1970s. Love the blue sky in the background. A bit plain, perhaps, but hey, sometimes less is more. :)
