Description
Gussie, standing at the entrance to his family's abandoned old homestead, is feeling a deep sense of alarm. It was only last night that he sought refuge here, since the town's mean and vicious cat, Hank, had been harassing the town's mice, almost ensnaring Gussie in his lethal paws just last night. Gussie had enough. So, he high tailed it to the hills for safety's sake and for some peace and quiet.
But now he's heard something rustling in the bushes near his tree and feared that Hank had picked up his scent and would finally do him in. Frozen with fear, he waited by the tree's opening, expecting, at any moment, he would see Hank lunging for him. There was that sound gain, but it wasn't Hank--only Mr. Rabbit enjoying his morning meal.
Much relieved, Gussie went inside the tree to continue with his nap in his most comfy nest that he created last night high in the tree's hollow.

This is so delightful, Barb! Poor little dude.... I suspect he may have a future in the restaurant industry.... 😉

Actually, I used the name of one of the mice, Gus, in the first Cinderella movie. I guess you're thinking about Ratatouille.

Oh, he's so cute! His startled and worried expression is so perfect. I really like his lamp, too. This is charming and the story was sweet with a happy ending.

When a city mouse becomes a country mouse - adventures ensue. I am glad he is safe. 🥰

Very sweet!

A genuinely positive tale, as natural as it is positive, and a delight. Anyone who's gone to the country after living in a huge city/town, for a long time, is in for a shock. I guess Gussie---or Gus---found that out soon enough. Happy it was just a hungry rabbit who has no animosity to Gussie. Your image is out of a book of enchanted folktales, love the lantern (w/ barb) and the shrooms and sweet sky, the birds, the hanging leaves (a willow?), etc. Delightful, and I love that you're doing small tales. (It would be great if his comfy nest were a 6 room condo w/ ceiling high windows and walk-in closets.) A scrumptious pastry.

Don't be too worried Gussie Hank will be into something else now. I think you & the family should move back to the country.
Lovely image & story. xx
