I am the author Lyle Aryn. Writing is my first love, my one true passion. Every since I was able to string a sentence together, it's all I've wanted to do. Websites where you can find my work and more are below.
I started using Daz Studio October 23rd of 2018, just as something to dink around with. I'd been signed up with the sight for a while, and would occasionally remember to check for freebies. I was surprised at what I had when I finally loaded up the program. I just started playing around with it, figuring it out. I'd say about 92% of what I've learned in the program I've learned just by playing around with it.
In December I went from being a dutiful son looking after his mom, to the full-time, no nights or weekends off, caretaker of my Mom. As someone who struggles with depression, anxiety and a mood disorder or two, this change has had a drastic impact on my own personal care and well-being. I turned to my blossoming love of doing digital art as a way to cope with the mountains of stress on my shoulders. I do miniature painting, too. But when you haven't slept in 4 days, handling a brush can be very messy. Not being able to paint to my own personal satisfaction was making this avenue of relaxation increasingly frustrating.
Daz Studio has an undo button that you just don't get with painting miniatures.
As my skill with the program grows, so does my confidence. I did the cover to my fifth novel, "Because the Night" using Daz Studio, as well as new covers for two previous releases. (Though they haven't been updated just yet.)
I'm looking to always improve my artistic work, no matter what the medium, and Daz Studio is no different.

Nice to see the old tabletop figures still being painted and used - can't tell you how many hours we spent pushing little people around mats, buildings etc. One i remember from a convention was a full scale 25mm Battle of The Alamo. Lots of well painted minis, beautiful terrain and beer! Think there wee eight or ten 8 foot tables needed...
Cool Mini Or Not was a great forum for high end painters to show and discuss. I learned a .lot of techniques like NMM (Non Metal Metallic) that went to good use before the eyes made it impossible. I think it's still around but most postings are Warhammer 40K and a smattering of historical 54mm and above. A lot of the really good artists from the early mid 2000s have long ago moved on to freehand painting or 3D. The later is this communities gain :)
The best minis in my opinion were those by Dark Sword and for those for the game "Confrontation." I have some from DS's house painters acquired through trade or commission.
Really good start Lyle. Keep it up and enjoy. Had a stash of unpainted minis I could have sent but they went to eBay. Still have the ones we used in campaigns though the 1/35 armor is crowding them a bit. It's amazing how fast collections grow even without the need for Warhammer or military armies and you can only have so many display cabinets.
If you need bases i can set you up. Have lots of good wood like mahogany, cherry, etc. in rounds, ovals and octagonal. Use them under all sorts of things but primarily for armor models and dioramas. Not a business - I give away more than i sell and some of these can take six or eight hours to finish from raw timber. No spray-bombed MDF.
The terrain is on you :)
Really neat to see minis again. Thanks!

Thank you! I got quite a pile of shame, and part of Bones V on the way, so I gotta try to get through at least some of it, lol. I've been painting a while now. I think I should get out something a bit better than my cell phone for the photos. No macro setting on my phone.
Thanks for the feedback! Expect to see more soon!

A friend of mine once called my 3D style 'diorama's. Now i see what he meant. Although, i have it much easier. Seeing this makes it clear the amount of work that goes into real diorama's. What a wonderful endeavor. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! I've already got plans for another one.

That's pretty darn cool! I can imagine painting these to be rather relaxing - almost like a Zen thing... And to get great results like this would make it even better! Looking forward to seeing more!

It is a fantastic escape. I have some finger shake, so a lot of my earlier stuff was figuring out how to work with it, until I arrived at a style that I find aesthetic, and could be happy showing to people.
Thanks for the feedback!
