Description
Stunned and relieved that the war is finally over, they get to go home....aware that so many weren't able to.
Eleanor Roosevelt, (who was first lady during the war years), said this:
"Dear Lord,
Lest I continue
My complacent way,
Help me to remember that somewhere,
Somehow out there
A man died for me today. As long as there be war,
I then must
Ask and answer
Am I worth dying for?"

A great woman indeed, her husband's equal in every way.

Very nicely done.

My Father was praised for his war work with SOE in Albania by President Roosevelt! Great image. One slight technical inaccuracy, but the helmets were painted with a Mat colour during the war and on active service. The gleam from a helmet was an easy target for snipers. Nevertheless, it is a very fine and emotive scene indeed!

Wow. I didn't know that, but it makes perfect sense. My father never talked about his war days. I know it must have traumatized him.

Missed this one, Linda... I like how you depicted the destruction of war and the empty feeling in the atmosphere. Can feel the damp chill in the air...Wars are, in the end, senseless and are Human's great failures to coexist with others. What a miserable beast the human species can be. Too many bullies.. and indeed, Ellie was a great and wise woman.

Wonderful scene!

This perfect for Memorial Day here in the USA.

A wonderfully sensitive piece of art. To a truly advanced civilization the concept of war must be one they can only equate to primitive and ignorant races that have not yet developed sufficiently to be allowed to spread beyond their own planetary boundary.

Superb homage for so many who died or came back home deeply wounded!

Great tribute!

A powerful tribute. An emotional and sensitive (not to mention, highly skillful) portrayal. I am very grateful you shared her prayer with us. I was not familiar with this quote. It ends with one of the most important questions I have ever heard. Thank you.

"Am I worth dying for?" That is a new perspective for me, and a moving one.
