It's haunting, but I like it.
I owned a portrait studio for nearly 20 years. I've studied posing and lighting extensively. My only criticism of the image is the Rio character's hand positions. They draw attention away from the two figures facial expressions. My preference would be to rotate Rio's right hand so the pinkie or thumb edge are more towards the viewer, and move the left hand down and rotate it palm up holding the elbow. (I just posed myself like that and my natural proclivity was to have my left hand support my right arm at the elbow.)
