Keeping the video cards and the processor cool is a must, then proper settings for the video card, and rendering setting matters.
I'm trying to make people understand the video cards are mostly used much below their computing power, for Iray I mean.
Happily, the AI denoiser does very well it's job so they are happy but, it's far away from what any nvidia can do. The RTX are even more powerful because they have more instructions, better hardware support for matrices and raytracing as well. Except for the faulty cards or hot GPUs, there is no reason they shouldn't work properly. HDR lighting with proper render settings have extremely huge, very accurate fine tuning for lighting. Those thousands cuda cores (gpu processing units) need to be properly fed. Try to paint a few centimetres eye with a 5 metre width brush and you will see how nice that eye will look. It will never look good. Then try a nanometre width brush then paint the same eye. You will never make it in this very life but, 20 billion painters with that brush, working at the same time, will make it look gorgeous in a blink of an eye. That's the GPU. The man with the brush is the CPU. The man must not paint but tell the GPU paint the eye for him. Just don't force the GPU wait for 8 painters to do the job, it's like 8 men pushing a formula 1 in a competition, with the engine stopped. First of all, keep your GPUs cool, under heavy load and make sure it stays cool.
