When I was very young, we (the other boys) would go down to the Ohio river and watch the paddle boat ferry come in. It would come right up to the muddy bank and put out a long gangplank. We were all barefoot and the mud didn't bother us, but it was fun to watch the people trying to tip toe through the mud. They've built a bridge since then, and so the paddle boats disappeared.
