After the rehearsal director Rex Grantham lecturing the cast on everything that he thinks went wrong or needs improvement. He has few helpful hints too. He was out in the house taking notes and Instead of going over items with individual actors he insists on reading them out loud to the whole cast when everybody is tired and wants to go home. Most will reluctantly admit that Rex does make the production look more professional. Rex has brought his own chair to the theater to sit in during these little lectures and keeps it backstage. Need I say more? Rex has experience as a professional actor and reports to the board of directors of the theater company where he has some friends. The board of directors, I might add, are all unpaid members of the local community who are drama enthusiasts and raise money to keep the theater group going. The board is split into factions, those who support Rex and those who would be happy to see him gone. The building owner is a member of the board and pays Rex's salary so Rex seems unlikely to be going any time soon.

The director is is hired by a producer to turn a script into a play and makes the artistic decisions to bring this about. In this case the board of directors acts as producer since they raise the money required to put on the show. Once rehearsals are finished the stage manager is responsible for running the show backstage so the play comes across as the director intended.
