In Norse mythology Valkyries are the choosers of the slain on the field of battle. They are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens and sometimes connected to swans or horses. Kyrie is one of the Valkyries who must choose those who may die in battle and those who may live. Selecting among half of those who die in battle , the Valkyries take their chosen to the afterlife in Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin. The other half of the slain go to the Goddess Freyja's afterlife field Fólkvangr. In Valhalla, the deceased warriors become einherjar and begin training in preparation for the events of Ragnarök. Kyrie, never smiles much for she holds life and death in her hands and there is not time for such things in the melee of the battlefield. Only a few have ever seen her laugh. A dry and hollow sound that one could hardly say was joyful. She has a stoic and determined set to her jaw and serves Odin efficiently. On the first full moon of each month she transcends between Valhalla and the plain of mortals on earth to collect Odin's chosen. Kyrie, has a horrible fate to her existence for she is never allowed the privilege to love for it is forbidden to all Valkyries. Kyrie loves a mortal hero, and her fate is sealed as to the Valkyrie code. When her hero's time finally comes, will she have the fortitude and courage to kill him and bring him home to Valhalla to join the ranks of Odin's warriors. If she fails to do so, she faces the loss of her immortality and eternal death and damnation in Hel.
