Or: The Holly King.
Ancient pre-Christian belief centered around the Holly King, who was sacrificed to bring the Sun back from the fields of Winter. The early church took over the Solstice festival and arbitrarially decided that Christ was born on that day. Good politics. The Holly King has held on though. Dicken's used him as the basis for the Ghost of Christmas past, and he's evolved through St. Nicholas to Father Christmas to Santa Claus.
I don't care what we call him, I just hope he brings the Sun back.
