Description
I figure once an apex predator manages to reach adulthood, pigmentation differences don't make a lick of difference. This was a random thought I realized I had not seen depicted anywhere so I tried it on a whim and I was really impressed with how much presence it had so decided to go ahead and render it despite having dozens of problems with this scene. I did a lot of shader exploration and am still not satisfied with the waterfall, but water planes, like glass, are harder to deal with if they are a single plane with no thickness and rely on transmaps for shaping. An interesting effect occurred with the eye: I used color mix nodes to change the eye and iris color from dark brown to a very pale pink (did the same with the hide, but changed to yellow-orange as we see in albino or leucistic reptiles) and made the SSS radius color bright blood red. The cornea is the same as I use for human figured, SnarlyGribbly's EZskin settings for Superfly. I was really startled that the eye came out blue! I think this is actually how blue eyes work in real life, though probably reached through a different light phenomenon, but it's very cool.

Nice image.

Very nice indeed! Interest, that the eye turned blue. When my material settings don't turn out the way I think they should, troubleshooting is rather difficult. (Maybe I should study photography to see if that can give me some clues.)

Studying photography is a great idea just for understanding the relations of light and angles and so forth. I do a lot of reference searches but never retain the info myself--I think I'm intimidated. But light physics is another great study that I think would help all of us in our art, CGI or not!
