Description

Rockport MA I did not ask permission to take this man's photo. I flipped the image and made it dark grey-scale to make him less identifiable here. He was so wonderful to watch, I wanted to remember him.

There's something you don't see every day anymore, someone looking at a actual Book.

you were very considerate to be cautious of his identity, though there may be laws protecting you, I don't know...but you showed a lot of class not letting his identity show. But first: The shot is a beauty---as I imagine it in full hues---because of his crouching intensity, and the wonderful rocks as his 'sofa', and the faded sea homes and lodges in the bckground (with masts, etc). But, in dark black and white? It has a ghostly, mysterious feel, like he's some somber literary ghost from an old, old fishing expedition, long failed, and he shows up every night at midnight to record what he's seen...I love the shot, and I love it in dark blacks and grays. A total surprise. The guy has a great posture and look. Love the shot.

(and those rocks, they're so new england...I'd die to see them on Lake Michigan...)

Is that a book or an iPad on which he's creating art? Great photo!

It was a sketch book, he took drawing pens out of the bag by his side.

there was a man playing his guitar on a fishing pier on the lake. I wanted to take his picture. my title would have been "sitting on the dock of the lake". charming capture and superb lighting effects

The dark gray treatment you gave this really sets a wonderful mood. It's as if the evening light is fading quickly, and he's looking his work over one last time before heading home for the final touches. It's beautiful!

What a great character. Is he a fisherman, an artist, or just like us, a person reflecting on his days here on earth. Very emotional capture. I am sure he would be honored that you found him with your lens.
