Description
After seeing a couple "quickie" portraits of an elephant and of a hippo that I did while my wife was fixing supper, she suggested that I do a rhinoceros. So I spent a little more time and did this this picture. Gave me a chance to experiment with depth of field.

Skip the depth of field nonsense. Outdoors in sunlight everything from 4 feet to the horizon would be in sharp focus with a real camera and a competent photographer. When did anyone ever see depth of field blur in a National Geographic photo? Never, I think. Save it for macro lens views of tiny flowers and insects.

Hi - Yes, with a fast "film," the photo in sunlight would probably be at something like f/16 or better (which is what I generally preferred when I was working). But I wanted to emphasize the rhino, so I opened my lens to f/4 or so. That way I had a shot of a rhino and just a hint of his environment, too. Thanks for your comments and suggestions. - Jack
