Spinning around, Lady Karsyn remembers she's got a scallywag in the hull just waiting for his evening questioning about the king's gold whereabouts on the ship.
By the way, anyone wondering why I call this gallery "Pirates of the Erie Canal", here's why...
I lived just feet away from the Erie Canal for 12 years. The old mule path is now a hiking/biking path that spans the 360 miles of the canal. I'd often take my camera and go hiking or biking along the canal.
During my years in Palmyra, NY, I learned that there were some pirates who are believed to set up port in Palmyra. Because the canal connects Lake Erie (near Niagara Falls) to the Hudson, and eventually on out to the Atlantic, it was a major commerce route in the 1830s until the railroad came though.
While the canal was in full operation, many businesses set up in Palmyra. It was called the Queen of the Canal. Huge mansions were built in Palmyra. (I actually owned one of those mansions during my 12 years there.) The canal brought wealth to the tiny village, but that was all short lived. The railroad came through, and people followed the railroad west.

Spent some time along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal down here. Not as grand, but the same type of engineering killed by the rails...

The lock houses and system are impressive along the Erie Canal. If you ever make it to the Rochester, NY, area, take a cruise on the Sam Patch canal boat. It's pretty educational and doesn't cost very much.
