Description

Esmeralda help the violin in her hands as an owl hooted nearby. It was cold tonight as a soft breeze blew from north of the graveyard. A soft moonlight could be seen through the clouds as it illuminated the surrounding area. Though she carried a lantern she did not need for such things any longer. For out of habit she brought it, perhaps a remembrances of an earlier time. Carefully Esmeralda made her way past the many tombstones of the old graveyard. It was here that her long dead brother Hugo lied, her poor Hugo. It had been only Hugo and herself as the plague had made desolate the country side killing many and whole families. But Hugo and herself were safe from the ravages of the deadly pestilences. In fact none of their farmland was affected. When the plague did finally die down, many were dead. Hugo and herself thought to help the people of the small village of Bavia with food from their farm, but all it did was make the people suspicious of them for they had not felt the cruel touch of plague. Finally one night the villagers of the town through fear or drunkenness' or both got together and formed a mob to confront Hugo and herself. It was a cool night like this one she thought when she heard the mob outside her home. Hugo went out to reason with them, but they would her none of it. Accusations of witchcraft and devilry were shouted above Hugos voice when suddenly a rock was thrown breaking the window and send shards of glass into Esmeralda palm. Hugo turned to confront the man who had cast the stone but that is all it took before the mob of twenty men beat him to and inch of his life living him for dead. The mob not finished with its deed sought to burn the house down.. a torch was thrown then another then another ...soon the house was on fire and Esmeralda jumped out a back window and into the forest as she glanced backwards of their burning home. How long she hid in the forest she did not know but finally she did make her way back see what left of a ruin burnt house. Esmerelda began to run shouting Hugo name coming to his body as it swung from a nearby tree. It wasnt till later the next day she finally cut him down, and with one of the donkeys laid his body on it and took him to town. Harsh stares and mouth agape she saw as she entered. Many of mothers took their children inside make signs of protection against evil. Against evil she smirked within, the evil was them ...the town folks and for what they did that night. She met each of the town peoples stare with cold hearted hate ...as she stopped at the chapel. Friar Gregoria met her and spoke " Esmerelda i am sorry for your lost, these people did evil against you and your brother. Had i know what they had intended to do i would of stopped them!" Esmerelda look blankly at Friar Gregoria and spoke " bury my brother Friar he deserves that.." Turning away Esmeralda made her way out of town, and the whispers began.. finally someone spoke and said " WITCH!!! WITCH WITCH WITCH!!!" suddenly the crowd began to scream it... Esmerelda stopped and turned around as the crowd now a mob chanted Witch!... With cruel and cold eyes she looked at them all.. and spat on the ground and walked away from the chanting of the crowd, "WITCH WITCH WITCH" ...That was a year ago and now here on that same very day she had made her way to her brothers tombstone. The grave digger had done what she had asked by digging up her brothers body so that she could bring him home she had told them though they didnt believe her they took her money which she had no use for. A soft wind began to blow as a chill went up her spine. Stretching her fingers and plucking the strings of her violin she made ready. With a soft voice Esmeralda spoke a few words in an ancient tongue long dead and began to play. At first the song began with a melancholy melody which seem to drift on the wind. Then as the music continue it violently changed into harsh tones as each string came alive. Esmerelda fingers were so fast that she seemed possessed as the bow danced on the string with urgency and purpose as each note cried out into the darkness.. .. The wind began to pick up as she continued to play oblivious to the wind actions. Finally a scream broke into the music as the coffin of her brother tore open revealing a long dead corpse of Hugo. Finally as the music continue movement began... as Hugo opened his long dead eyes and reached out a hands towards her... Hugo always did like her she played her violin. Now Hugo would play in her last song ... her song of destruction of Bavia and her revenge!
