Description
The other day, I downloaded a car model I have wanted for quite some time. It is a 1953
Pontiac two door hardtop. As a little kid, I have a vague recollection of one of my uncles
owning this particular make and model car and if I'm not mistaken, his was the same color
as this on as well.
The cars on the left are from the free raw file by Dmitry Siromaha I downloaded from sketchfab
as an fbx file. Many thanks to him for creating with wonderful car model and generously letting
it go for free. It is a low polygon count file so it looks just a little rough around the edges.
I had looked at before and at that time thought it was just a little too rough for my desire.
But this particular day, I felt it might be worth taking the time to play with it in blender.
So I imported the fbx file into blender and exported it as an obj file, then imported into Poser
pro 2014 with no more modifications at all just to show what it looked like at the start. I have
to say it doesn't look too bad at that. At least there was plenty there to work with. So as you
can see, the cars on the left are left alone just as they 'came out of the box' so to speak.
The cars on the right, however, I did some modifications to in blender doing some smoothing to
the body as much as I was able to with blenders add modifiers. I will admit here, my blender skills
are very limited but I have been slowly learning more about it as I do more projects like this one.
I also added some badging and chrome enhancements to the front and the hood and trunk stripes. Then
I jazzed up the paint job with reflections etc.
So, what do you think? Were my efforts worth it or is the original just fine as it is?
Okay. Okay. Okay. I will admit it. I have a thin skin, so don't be too hard on me. LOL.
Thank you for taking a peek! Your support is greatly appreciated!

Looking for needle to puncture skin! lol (only joking) Your efforts were WELL WORTH the final result Bill. I'm useless with Blender but perhaps that's just telling me that I have other stuff to concentrate on, like our new puppy! lol If anyone would like a video of him running like the wind, please just message me. Nice work

Absolutely worth the effort. There are some great basic vehicle assets out there that can be enhanced by enthusiasts who know their way around programs like Blender and know the cars. Your next step is to build the cars..:)

I can imagine being a little kid and sitting in the back seat in the sweltering heat as dad drives you cross country to grandma's house... oh, and eating those horrid salt pills of the early sixties.

I think this is positively and incredibly creative work. Your attention to detail and shading produces some incredible results. LIKE + FAV for sure.
