Description

Happy Halloween! I had fun with lighting on this one. I wanted to just use the window but it turned out too dark so I had to play with transparency on the wall I put over the front of the set to let just enough environmental lighting in. The little cutie lurking off to the right is an old prop by Lab_108 that I added some dynamic tentacles to in the Hair room. This room is a beautiful setting with normals and specular maps, super fun to play with. I highly recommend it!

I just commented on the lighting on your portrait of the character wearing a ring. But with this one, it actually is too dark for me to see, and my computer settings and the light where I'm sitting haven't changed. All I can see is the window the the sunlight on the floor. I think with scenes like this it's helpful to use an "illumination helper", which is basically a one-sided square placed just outside the window, with high emissive materials, set to not cast shadows or be visible in the render. I did some tests of this concept to show someone else last week, using both Firefly (w/ IDL) and Superfly, so if you're curious I'd be happy to share info via primate message!

I'd like to see more detail about what you mean! This is dimly lit on my screen, which is by intent, but still light enough to see details--but I am using a 21" LED monitor that is not on a laptop, so I can always see my images. People on cell phones can't see most of my work no matter how bright I think it is. I never want to go to where it looks washed out or blown out to me, but I want people with laptops to be able to see it, at least. I think phones are probably a lost cause. xD Please do PM me. :)
