Description

Here you see a part of castle "Arcen". We were in the castle because of an art exhibition where art of mine was also shown. From Wikipedia: Description of the castle The current preffice is on the spot of a predecessor destroyed in 1646 (the Nije Huys) and was built in 1653 by Marcelis van Gelder, Mr. Van Arcen. His grandson Adolf founded the current main building in the early 18th century. Above the gate of the Voorburcht a carved stone with the Alliance weapon of Gelder-van Lützenrode. An elsewhere surrendered by the alliance weapon of Gelder-van Nessellode is located on the south side of the square. The castle is brick except in the frame of the main entrance, which consists of natural stone. The main building initially had two protruding side wings in the French way, but that on the north side was demolished after a fire in the 19th century. The current castle is in good condition, since it is part of the castle gardens of Arcen. From the castle that preceded the currently existing castle is virtually nothing left. Its remains are located west of the current castle, slightly north of the Wymmar mill, a restored water mill that, except in the winter months, can be viewed. Castle gardens After bankruptcy in 2012, the castle gardens were accountable for the owner of the entire estate Arcen's owner in 2012, the Limburg Landscape Foundation. Limburgs Landscape again took over the park and from 26 April 2013 the park is open to the public again. Maze Remnants of two old mazes were found on the castle domain. Archaeological research has shown that the two maids in any case date from before 1805, possibly even from the beginning of the 18th century. The archaeologists state that this are the oldest famous mazes in the Netherlands. [1] History and residents In the 14th century, the Van Bueren gentlemen were of Arcen. Through marriage, glory and castle in possession of the genus Schenck van Nijeggen and then the Van Gelders. Don't know if it's allowed to put these text here, but it was only in Dutch on Wikipedia. Anyway, thank you very much for your look, dear friends.
