Description
Navarre had sat in this very chair many times in his life. His adoptive father was heavy handed when it came to discipline, and he had to admit it, that was something that he needed. But most times in this chair, and aboard this very vessel, he had been brought to learn.
"I will stand by your side, Father." Navarre nodded curtly. He pushed his bravado up as much as he could, and meant it, but something else was at play within him. Something was different this time. He had never felt so small and alone as he did right now. Gone was his defiance, lost was his stubbornness.
He stared up at his adoptive father; there was pride, remorse, and love all interacting with his stern features.
"You would, My son." His father leaned forward with a broad smile. His eyes grew haunted as memories from the past clouded his mind. "Your mother." He drew a deep breath. My beloved wife. You and she had a way of communicating that no one could understand or hear. But I saw it there. She taught you in the ways of your people; just as I taught you in the ways of Klingon. Now you are both, and neither." He lowered his head. "On her dying breath, even as I held her in my arms." He looked back up, his eyes gleaming. "That day, I heard her. She showed me who and what you are. Allowed me to see what you will become and what you are to do." He shook his head slowly. "You destiny awaits you on a different path. As much as I would have you by my side; I must put you on your path. As much as to keep you safe from our enemies as to start you towards your destiny. I swore that to her." He rose slowly to his feet. "And we will honor that vow."
