That afternoon, I went back to the station. "Are you okay?" Roy asked. "Thompson said you had problems with a spell last night." "I'm fine now. But no casting today." "Good idea. Thompson and Harris are trying to figure out how to proceed. Maybe you can help." I went to the office and knocked. "Come in," Thompson snapped. "Sir?" I asked as I opened the door. Thompson relaxed a little. "Sean, how are you feeling?" "Fine, sir. Problems?" "Tell Harris what you saw last night." "I saw the star that Terry told us about. I heard Lorraine and Robin. The phone is in an office in someone's home. By the conversation, no one but the man is allowed in there." "What kind of spell did you use?" Harris asked. "An elf one." We can't get a warrant with it, so we'll stake out the place." "If he sees a car sitting outside for hours, he'll get suspicious. He's already got to be on edge after Terry." "What did Connie mean Puck could pass as a scout?" Thompson asked me. "Who are Connie and Puck?" Harris asked. "Connie is a friend. She helped me recover last night. Puck's my cousin, Kat's brother." I turned to Thompson. “Puck's a shape shifter. He could look like a girl if he needs to." "Can you shape shift?" Harris asked. "No, I'm full-blooded Seelie. Only half Seelie and half Unseelie can do that. The best I can do is a glamour and that needs to wait until tomorrow. I couldn't make myself look like a little girl." "Maybe a door-to-door salesman or a Jehovah's Witness," the chief suggested. "If Sean can see inside, he can report seeing one of the hostages." "There is one other option, but it's dangerous," I ventured. "What?" "My storage space. If I empty it, I can send anything up to the size of a man into it." "You want to put the Kidnapper in there?" Thompson guessed. "The DA won't like that." "I was thinking of Lorraine and the kids. But there's no air in there. If there's any kind of delay getting them out, they could suffocate." "Not to mention if the kidnapper sees one of them disappear, there is no telling what he'd do to the others," Harris added. I nodded. "That too." "If you can put anything in there, what about the phone? Then we can turn it on and put it back. And we could track it for the warrant." "I can send stuff to storage and summon it to me, but I can't put things in other places." "We'll find something," Thompson insisted. "Until then, Sean has recreations to do and we have other crimes." I took my queue and left.
