Description
Of all the "geeky" things I love, Star Trek ship designs might be right at the top of the list. Here's the legendary Dreadnaught Class Starship*. This ship never appeared on screen, and only existed on the pages of the Star Fleet Technical Manual (and of course in the fevered dreams of young Star Trek fans like myself).
*That third nacelle never made a lick of sense, but it sure did look good!

I saw this last night, but refrained from commenting - but such work demands at least SOME discussion!
I just pulled my copy of the Star FleetTechnical Manual out of my library (which made me chuckle when I saw that it would have cost me a whopping $6.95 USD back in 1975!) Yup, this model pretty much nails it - right down to the shuttle bay at the front of the secondary hull, and the multiple sensor dishes. My only critique - the primary (saucer) hull on the Dreadnaught was shown as being more deeply bowl-shaped than the rest of its contemporaries - making it look oddly 'swollen.' Y'know, I think I actually like this version better!
Thanks for presenting it in its 3D glory, rather than as just the 2D orthographic technical drawing I've known for some 45 years...

Thanks Colin. I'm glad I'm not the only one who still has a copy of the Technical Manual ($6.95! Hahaha! A king's fortune to us kids at the time!). Mine still holds an honored place on my bookshelf. Glad you liked the render. Although we never got to see one in action, I tried to do her justice.
