Dimetrodon was a mammal-like reptile which had both mammal and reptile characteristics (not a dinosaur).It lived during the Early Permian Period,between 280–265 million years ago. Fossils have been found in North America and Europe. The sail was probably for controlling body temperature and for mating and dominance rituals. Dimetrodon was a predator (meat eater). Two species included: a) Dimetrodon grandis - length 3.5 meters b) Dimetrodon milleri - length 1.7 meters
