Description

He was uncertain how long he had travelled. "Meaningless, really," he mused. "My research resulted in an unanticipated personal condition: I seem to have come 'unstuck' in time." His experiment involved bombarding himself with the aetheric substance he had dubbed "Tempus Radiorum" and as he had hoped he had been projected into a future of wondrous technology. After a brief time, he had expected to return to his time laboratory. Instead, he found himself randomly projected through different eras every few days or so of his personal experience of the passage time. He had the feeling that being "unstuck in time" was but one result of his experiment. What other changes had been wrought? "This place must be some sort of crossroad," he thought pondering shafts of sunlight through a fine mist. "I often pass along this place." Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered in Poser 12.0.757 using Superfly Cycles 2. It was inspired by the use of the content by another artist at Renderosity that I follow. It's part of my Darkstar/Steampunk contiuum. Ebenezer S Darkstar is based upon L'Homme with textures and morphology by Tempesta3d his hair is by RPublishing and the Wafarer outfit he's wearing is by letterworks. The mysterious ruins are by Blue Tree Studio. This is part of the backstory of the tale I've been telling about Lilja Darkstar, Ebenezer's heir who has been kidnapped last we knew.

Thank you! I've been struggling with "God Rays" for the longest time and I think I managed that effect pretty well here!

Thank you. I expect you meant the overall effect and not just volumetrics! ;) Truth be told, it was meant to be a mood piece and it's the first time I've every gotten the atmosphere/volumetric density to the place where I actually got "God Rays" in the render. Woohoo! =)

I appreciate your lovely comment, Ute! I'm really stretching a bit as a rendering artist here and it's so validating that an involved, productive artist leave me such praise. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! =)

Wow! Thank you, Steve! It's lovely to hear such a nice comment as I spent an indecent amount of time fiddling with this to get the atmospher/volumetric density to where you could see thing and I still got me some "God Rays"! XD

The camera angle brings out the most of the setting and atmosphere. Very appropriate for steampunk without the need for gadgets and such. it works!

Thank you, so much, JD. Such a comment means the world to me. Steampunk isn't always about gadgets, as you clearly understand. <3

Thank you so much, Annie. I am pleased with the character and owe much to Tempesta3D for that. I fiddled with this an indecent amount of time to get the lighting to what I wanted for the "God Rays". Such a lovely comment makes me feel the time was well spent. <3

Hello Molly, here you succeeded a masterpiece. Especially I like the volumetric light through the columns, the water reflections and the face light. The experiment of the time traveller has need of improvement and therefore he landed in that mysterious temple what is a crossing between two different times. I hope he will take the right branch off. Regards Anne

You understand the story completely, Anne! Thank you so much for your comment. The lighting was a challenge and the use of an area light on his face was a bit of a cheat but I'm so pleased you found the final result pleasing. I'm not entirely happy with the reflections on the water but I gave up fiddling with it as sometimes "perfect" is the enemy of "good enough". >.<

Thank you, my dear. The picture succeeded beyond my initial thoughts, especially with the "God Rays" which I've always had to fake in the past.

Thank you! I learned a lot and finally got the atmospheric density to where it's not a thick pea soup fog and still have "God Rays" rendering nicely. Thank you also, for a lot of fine content. I am a satisfied customer! =)

great job on the god rays, and an interesting composition with the dark and light which give it a nicely dark yet interestingly mysterious vibe, excellent render, Molly

Thank you, Majin! This one evolved and the final product is quite a bit different than what I started with. I was particularly pleased with the volumetrics and lighting.
