Description
I didn't intend to do this picture. I intended to do a render of Darky2012's "Ring 2" freebie because I downloaded it the other day and thought it looked neat. But I decided the ring needed to be on a hand, and then the hand needed a skin, and the skin needed a character to go with it, and then she needed clothes, and so forth and so here is my finished ring render. xD

I like everything about it, very well-posed and set up. The only thing I would change in the scene is the lighting. Because of the dark-skinned subject matter and background, the model is lost in the render. Well-placed portrait lighting would separate her from the background and draw attention to her. Otherwise, great job.

Thank you! And yeah, lighting portraits is pretty new to me. There are actually no lights at all in this scene, I just used a HDRI environment of a photo studio with one big light and a reflecting umbrella. That one was the only one of several that brought out the warmth in her skin tone and didn't wash her out or make her look ashy. I've never worked with a dark-skinned figure before. I think I'm going to do some research on that.

Beautiful work! Pose, composition, all marvelous.
Concur about the lighting; I think there might be some lighting packages optimised for darker skin?
Well done.

I actually think the lighting worked out well here! Her skin tone is warm and rich, more so than in the promos for the character, actually! Her outfit, jewelry, and hair are lovely too! And of course the ring looks nice on her also :-) I've done this sort of thing: set out to show off something small and then ended up with a whole portrait! I'm glad you kept going b/c this is beautiful :-)
