Used to go shopping in the fifties - all little shops along the high street, greengrocer, butcher, fishmonger, toy shop, sweet shop - before our local cinema turned into a supermarket ... And the shopkeeper recognised you.

great nostalgic image... might me asking what resource(s) were used for the background "general store"? Tks - Ray

This is a very old background which I got from a friend before almost 10 years, I still have some of them, but I rarely use them! Satisfied???

Lovely scene and lovely song to accompany it, very sentimental and "feel good" melody!! Even the kitty is smiling. :)

Sad to see so many things lost to memory - small businesses among them. Used to be a great life to operate a store on the ground floor in a city block and live above. Now the stores need bulletproof glass enclosures to protect the proprietors while cameras film the locals steal with impunity as prosecutors consider even grand theft a misdemeanor....

I've always lived in a big city but I love the picture. I do recall a time when there were more locally owned stores and such when I was a little girl. Mainly this reminds me of s grocery store that I could reach by walking from home to run errands for my mother. Nostalgia is hard to do well and I think you really did very well here! Thank you for sharing your work, Ute.

Yes, I've been in a few old Country Stores. They are fascinating and so much fun to explore. Your scene is perfect! The people are wonderfully posed and they interact with each other well. Bravo!

A much pleasanter time, with a simpler way of life! Those were the days! Or at least we remember them that way!
I hope you are having a good day friend!

Wish I could recall lots but with my frazzled memory shoot. Lost so much. Great scene Ute.
But have a few of my small town memories, but the city is much bigger now.
I can remember back then The YMCA and YWCA were a block apart. And a piggly wiggly grocery store.

Fantastico lavoro come sempre mia cara amica 👏👍🙋♂️😉

Not everything about the "good old days " was necessarily good, but I do miss the old fashioned community stores.... Lovely work, great atmosphere and detail.

yes, I do remember those days. (I'm 73, this month, I remember when milk was delivered to your door, in glass bottles...and we returned the empty bottles when we were through.) A charmed and magical image, with every generation in it; and a mother holding an apple. (There was a time when an apple represented wholeness.) I love the details in the background. And, as always, I love your costumes. Great dress on the mosther, a beautiful pink dress on the grandmother, a big flare-dress on the little girl, and a great suspender-outfit on the young man. (Plus I love that cap.) A charmed reminder of times past. You even have an old trumpet back there, and a bag of tea. I mean a 1 LB bag! You don't see that anymore...a delight.
