Description
A little obscure whimsy, which I dedicate to my friend Marcopol who is a master of such things!
Many people know Cyrano de Bergerac from the famous play by Edmond Rostand (and its later movie adaptations). What fewer people know is that the fictitious character was loosely based on a real person, Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac, who lays claim to being the first Science Fiction novelist. His satirical novel "L’Autre monde ou les états et empires de la Lune", published posthumously in 1659 ( often referred to as "Voyage to the Moon " in English) tells the story of an eponymous hero who attempts to travel to the moon. After several failures, he is accidentally launched into space while trying to rescue his winged flying machine from a bonfire. He's just about to pull it form the pyre, when the numerous firecrackers that have been attached to it to ensure its destruction go off, launching it (and him) vertically into the air....

The best image of the week (or more...) ; it's extremely well composed, rendered...a BIG bravo. But, but, as a Frenchman I'm vexed because I didn't know the real story of Cyrano de Bergerac...

So it appears he was way ahead of the Falcon 9... 😉 I think I've seen bits and pieces of that old film.
You really did a fantastic job on this, Joe. Well done!

I think he is about to pre-empt Newton's first observation on gravity, a really interesting image and a delightful background story to go with it
