the hurricanes were not mentioned. The first house my great grandfather built was destroyed by a hurricane.

yes! All those fonts in one ad! Every line is a different typeface...that's old advertising! And they box-off the sales pitch ("where schools, churches and society form the basis of good government"---that's a 19th C. line!). Great artifact, Richard. And check out the "deep water at Galveston being a 'certainty'": Without running water and plumbing, being near a source of water was a big, big deal. Wonderful ads. Selling is selling, and boy did they do it differently in those days!

Sugar plantation? Does anyone in Alvin farm sugar cane today, well probably no room now =) and the cost per acre would outrageous now.
