this really gives the sense that these gliders were primitive compared to full planes. It must've been a challenge to steer them and land them, esp if there was hardware as cargo. (Like a jeep.) It's hard to believe that the people we grew up with went through all this, and came back to normal life and had to adjust. My uncle (who was a ranger and had a purple heart) said he drank for a full year before he could adjust to being home. Fascinating information you've posted, Richard. And ironically relevant, as the Ukraine war is now happening.
