Description
Wyrm made Grywell appear briefly. It wasn’t a moving image like Wench had done. It was still. The child was frozen in place. He’d never seen anyone so small before. He felt drawn to the boy.
Then he changed it to Cramda’s base room. It was where Wyrm would scry for him. He made it empty. He didn’t want to see Cramda, Morcri, or any of the others. He was never going to see this place again. Even if the mortals didn’t execute him, even if he was released from prison, he would never see the place again. It was gone. The only home he’d ever known was gone.
He heard someone outside and he returned the room to normal. They knocked. They always did. No one in Ertonia did.
“Come in,” he called. He wondered what they would do if he said something else. He glanced at the scar on his arm. He didn’t want to antagonize them.
Shunati entered with his dad and Annlonna. He made three chairs. As usual, Mishtali changed his.
“Why do I even bother?” Shunati shook his head.
“Wyrm, I’d like you to meet Drepal.” Mishtali gestured to the woman.
“I thought you said her name was Ann.” Wyrm looked at her. “Didn’t you tell me you’re Annlonna?”
The woman shook her head. “You met Ann before. I’m her twin sister. Grandfather asked me to come to meet you. I grew up with immortals too. They killed our mother before I was born and took me to Lerjao and left Ann to die. Mom’s friend saved her and adopted her.”
She looked around. “Your room is nicer than mine was. I lived in a cave.”
“Did you have to stay in it all the time? I never left Cramda’s house.”
“No, I left it all the time. Lyra had a lot of work for me. But she branded me. If I disobeyed, it would cause me a lot of pain.”
She paused a moment. Her looks changed. She was covered with sores, burns, and scars. She became gaunt like she was sick. “This is what she did to me.”
Wyrm’s eyes grew wide. “What did you do to deserve that?”
“Do? Most of this was from training. I was terrified of her. I always tried to obey.”
“I felt the same about Nor’than,” Mishtali said.
“How bad did you look?” Wyrm asked.
Mishtali changed too. He, like Drepal, looked sick and was covered in sores and scars.
“Uncle Wyrm, when…” Drepal started.
“Uncle?” Wyrm frowned.
“You’re my father’s brother. That would make you my uncle.”
“How much family do I have?”
“A lot,” Drepal said. “Too much to list them all now. When you wake, you’ll get to meet them all.”
“If I wake.”
“You will not be kept asleep forever,” Mishtali assured him.
They talked a while longer. Wyrm was starting to relax a little around his dad. He could relate a little to Drepal. Shunati stayed quiet most of the time. Some of the time, the three used Ertonian. Shunati didn’t speak that.
This time, like the others, Shunati had to leave to check on his son. Mishtali explained he was a baby and had been born too early and had almost died. Shunati had to give him a lot of special care. The baby was doing better. He no longer needed constant attention, but Shunati still needed to check on him frequently. Wyrm had never seen babies before, but he didn’t want to cause any trouble. He never complained.

Another excellent chapter... explaining Ann/Drepal is going to get complicated. I'm looking forward to that.

Thanks. An explanation is coming. Of course, the truth has a way of coming out.

Great scene! I enjoy Wyrm the best. I hope he gets out of his room soon. wonderful picture!

Thanks. He is an interesting one to write. And don't worry. He has Ann on his side. She can talk a dragon out of his wings. She and Mishtali will make sure he's taken care of.
