Description
Character Profile
Van Artell is a young eighteen-year-old Cadet just being enrolled at Empire Star Academy. He is starting his semester late, because he was defeated in winning his planet's paid scholarship to the Academy by his fellow Tryonnian, Mab Elon! Van was forced to break-up with his girlfriend, Latara and was confined to his room for continual study as punishment for falling to defeat Mab Elon and win the planetary scholarship. Van aches for the love and tender kisses of his girl and blames Mab for his troubles! His father, who is dropping him off at the school's library, is berating Van once again for being second place to Mab and shaming the family. Van's father is furious that he now has to pay for the expensive academy and tells his son he will be spending all his spare time studying in this library and that he is not allowed any girlfriends on his "off days". Books and weights are now to be his only "love". Van's father tells him that he must be better than Mab at everything! Van has vowed to get revenge on Mab and is determined to win back his father's love and respect!

Very nice work with the body language. Your composition is strong (love the low POV). I really like your lighting choices for this; the strong light on the head and shoulders really help draw our eyes to their faces/heads. I like your painting effects, but there is something odd about the patterns. Have you tried toning down (decreasing the strength) of the bump maps? I think that might help enhance the illustrative quality you're working toward. Over all, this looks to be an exciting story. Best of luck with it.

A fine pair in turmoil! Too bad the father has to be such a self centered prick and not appreciate his son for who he is! The son is not a champion quarter horse or other prize animal to be trotted out to win prizes and fame for the father! He is a living human with all the emotions a human is capable of! Too bad his father is pushing him toward the dark side! Excellent character study possibilities here with this one! Your story is fleshing out quite nicely! Many fine praises from me on its continuation!

Thank you so much for your kind comments and encouragement! Yes, his father is cruel. He knew depriving him of his girlfriend would really hurt him and he filled his son with shame for his "failures". Now Van blames Mab. He will be scheming to sabotage him and turn people against Mab.

Thank you for commenting! I appreciate it! He isn't secure enough to do that. His Father is very strong and dominating and looks down on Mab because of his background. He thinks Van and his family are "superior". He has drilled this into his son.
