Description

Gregor Bubnoff experienced a full warm feeling tinged by sadness when he caught sight of the petite form of his sister. "Vladlena, you look well! Have you heard of Pyotr's situation?" The young woman sighed. "Best just call me 'Lena', big brother. " 'Vlad' is not a popular name these days." She paused to consider her next words. "I've not heard from Pyotr. I know his unit engaged with the Ukrainians yesterday. Last I heard from him he had been presented a contract to change his status from 'conscripted' to 'voluntary enlistment'." "Uhg!" Gregor spat. "He signed it, of course!" "Of course, big brother. What kind of choice did he have do you think?" Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. "He has no more choice than I did when I fled St. Petersburg. If I had stayed after what I shared on the website I think it only a matter of time until you had a sister as a jailbird beside your brother who is a soldier." "Was it difficult to get to River Heights?" "Pfft! It was easier to enter Finland than it was to get out of New York. For some reason, this country's Homeland Security people were suspicious of me and my papers. But I am here now!" "Yes," the stoic man replied. "You are here now. Let's get something to eat and then I need to introduce you to my thesis professor. She has agreed to help you settle in River Heights." They were observed by a quiet man dressed in a conservative black business suit. Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered in Poser 12.0.757 using the Superfly Cycles 2 rendering engine and then tweaked a bit in Photoshop. Vladlena Bubnoff is a character based on the much neglected Bella 1.2 mesh by Ali (get it at his website, Mankahoo). Her big brother Gregor (whom you have met before) is based on L'Homme with morphs and textures by the amazing Tempesta3d . Other figures in the picture include Genesis 2, P3DA's LoRez Policeman and Loretta LoRez, Baron Vlad Harkonnen's Joshua and good ol' P2 dork. The setting is by Blue Tree Studio. #VladlenaB

Great looking image! The story speaks so well for these times! You have brought the current events into sharp focus! Many fine kudos from me!

Thanks, Rad. Gregor had been a character of mine for a few years but I thought I'd like to explore his family and the impact of current events. It's so kind of you to let me know such a thing resonates with you, also.

Tight security and FBI looking male. A well developed scene Molly, came out splendid.

Thank you, Steve. I tried to get the feeling of airports I've been in (I hate flying) and then imagining how it might feel to be under the scrutiny of the security people. I tried not to let it get overly dramatic. I'm delighted that the balance was successful for you.

Nice idea to show the plight of ordinary Russians who disagree with Putin's war. I hope the quiet man in a business suit doesn't mean them any harm!

You use an impressive array of figures! Bella is very cute. I downloaded her a while back, but I don't have anything for her, so I never bothered to see how easy it would be to convert V4 clothing to her. Is that what you did or do you actually have clothing for her? Hair (and accessories like glasses) from any figure should work with almost any other figure, but conforming clothes are tricky! You get a special bonus for using P2 "Dork"! :-)

Thanks for your support of the story. Unfortunately, the man observing them IS a potential threat and I may or may not get into that. Lena and Gregor are in a bad position and their student visas may become part of the sanctions that are going on against the country of their birth. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. =(

As for Bella, she is lovely. Very easily posed and full of useful morphs to change her appearance. Ali made a few clothing bits for her but here she is dressed entirely in clothing for V4 (glasses actually for Dawn, I think). Using the fitting room is pretty easy if you have FVerbass' prefitter morph donor; there is a bella morph and you just copy the morph to the clothes you want to convert, set the morph to 1.0 and go to the fitting room and fit. Gloves and some shoes are challenging, but even that isn't impossible. I hope you will give her a try. The real lack, from my viewpoint, is textures (although the one she comes with is fine).

The other low rez background figures are safe to use with the effect of DoF. XD The P2 Dork is the business man headed for the detector behind Loretta Lorez and is the most out of focus. I did run all the low res characters through SnarlyGribbly's EZskin. =)

My heart hurts for the ordinary Russian citizens. They did not ask for this any more than the Ukrainians did. It's just Putin acting like the pathetic waste of DNA that he is. May one of his inner circle tire of his nonsense and put a piece of lead into his ear. Either side will work.

As always, an excellent job with the scene and the writing, Molly. I need to get back to my story.... Soon. I hope.

As always a wonderfully done new scene, I just partly agree with that what dear Rod said below, because I have already heard other statements from Russian citizens (who live in Europe) in the last few days, which have almost taken my breath away. Fortunately, the majority did not got brainwashed!

MollyFootman

Thanks for your comment, Ute. My characters certainly don't represent ALL Russian citizens but at least some, like Lena and Gregor understand that what their country has done in Ukraine is very wrong. What's more sad, their little brother, a military conscript, also understands. It's painful to be unable to alter your country's course when you know it's wrong. Many flee their country of birth as Lena is doing.

I suspect many Russian citizens who support what Putin is doing don't really know what Putin is doing and/or don't trust the Western media. =(

Right: They don't know what Putin is doing and they don't trust the Western media! Very good statement from Mr. Biden this evening in Poland! Putin is a Butcher!!!!!!

MollyFootman

9:31PM | Sat, 26 March 2022

Putin is a butcher without doubt. I have so much trouble believing that people who have any true idea of what is happening in Ukraine would approve. Putin is a butcher without doubt. So why do some support him? I can only believe that they have swallowed lies. I am proud of my president and agree with the statements he has made. I am so glad he has been trying to work with NATO unlike the fellow who he replaced.

My characters, by fleeing Russia are perhaps cowardly. Certainly not as brave as Alexai Navalny who returned to Russia in protest even after being poisoned and is now imprisoned. Although not as brave as Navalny they are certainly not in support of the brutal invasion of Ukraine. Even their brother, who is a Russian soldier that they speak of, does not support the invasion and would not be there except for having been conscripted and now coerced into signing a military contract (I have heard such things are happening).

a dramatic web unfolds, great work on the posing and expressions, Molly, and a good background story to flesh it out too

MollyFootman

9:10AM | Sun, 27 March 2022

Thank you, Paul. It touches upon the sadness I feel for all the ordinary people whose lives will change in so many ways. Since I created the character of Gregor a few years ago in somewhat happier times I began to wonder how things might be developing for him and his family. Just one more story I'll likely never finish. >.<

Wonderful narrative image; you've captured the glare and inherent "transience" you feel in airports perfectly. I have some additional sympathy with Lena too, as last time I had to travel to the US I was detained for 8h just for having a Palestinan name... Suffice to say I shan't be returning.

MollyFootman

10:31AM | Tue, 29 March 2022

:( Sorry to hear of your problem. When I imagined the story for Lena's flight from Russia I knew part of it would have to do with my country's paranoia about foreigners. Your experience confirms that my beliefs about the U.S.of A. are pretty much on target. We need to improve.

As for capturing the airport vibe, thank you! You make me feel great as that was certainly what I was trying for! =)

A sad slice of reality and wonderful posing! But I have to ask...(whispers) doesn't Nancy Drew live in River Heights? And yes I am dating myself :D

MollyFootman

10:36AM | Tue, 29 March 2022

Heh. Indeed Nancy does. It began as a kind of joke in Second Life where I helped fund and build a city which we called "River Heights" and the membership group was called "Girl Detectives in Trouble" (GDiT). XD

In the Mollyverse there are two main cities in the contemporary timeline: River Heights (somewhat analogous to Kansas City except somehow it has a seacoast) and Midland City (analogous to St. Louis). You can tell from this that I am not only familiar with Nancy Drew but I am also from the middle part of the U.S. of A. =)

If you are dating yourself, my dear, you must come from an era that also spawned teh Mollz. An era of find vintage indeed!

More compelling then fun under current circumstances but worth watching and reading regardless. No better way to address conflict and upheaval than stories of the lives they ruin.

MollyFootman

10:06AM | Wed, 30 March 2022

That was my thinking, JD. When I created the Gregor character a few years ago, Russia was a problematic place but Putin seemed at that time to be a rational actor. He's departed from that and Russia is now an extremely problematic place. I felt I had to begin addressing how Gregor would be responding and also to introduce his family. Vladlena and Pyotr are the start of that and I have some interesting thoughts about how Lena will fit into Professor Van Humbeek's band of paranormal investigators. So many story ideas, so little time... XD

As always, thanks for the comment. I love hearing from you!
