Daeron Syn The Darkwolf of Melnibone Male Melnibonean: Noble/Warrior (Assassin)/Thief/Sorcerer 6’3” 160 lbs (light + 1 D10 lbs (+10 lbs)), age 30 (appears 27) As a Melnibonean, Syn is considered noble by all residence of the Young Kingdoms, as well as being both a warrior and sorcerer. However, he is also trained as an assassin and thief, being a member of the Dragon Isles most secret of societies, the “Shadow Dragons”, who traditionally serve the Ruby Thrown by covertly eliminating threats from within the emperor’s court, remaining vigilant even today, though they haven’t been called on to perform those duties in centuries. A throw back to ancient times, when Melnibone ruled the world from the backs of dragons, Syn has been disgusted with the decadence and apathy that left his people in drug induced dreams of lost glories since childhood. Outcast for his vigorous pursuits, something scandalously unbecoming of a modern Melnibonean, he abandoned the luxuries of the Dreaming City, Imrryr, to wander the Young Kingdoms as a self-exiled renegade. Cruel, amoral and without humanity, his race was born to sorcery and sworn to Chaos, but he owes allegiance to none, not even the Dukes of Hell, and, though few who have called him friend survive, far fewer who dared to call him enemy live long enough to regret that mistake. Recently, while in Cadsandria to acquire the grimoire of one of his forebearers from the height of the Bright Empire, before the Dharzi war, he made the acquaintance of a wingless Myrrhyn merchant woman, Rynn Stormbourn, seeking any means to gain the wings she was denied at birth who charmed him into diverting his attention from the source of the tome, as well as a troubadour and black-sheep of a noble Filkharian house, Rynard Adae, who ensconced himself into their company with the intent to craft an epic ballad, “the Song of the Darkwolf”, telling the tale of Syn’s many adventures... much to his chagrin. A raging storm of conflicting passions concealed behind a mask of callous indifference, Syn is not without honor, a rather callous sense of justice and malicious humor, as well as, in his own words, becoming “inflicted” with a measure of humanity through his travels amongst men. However, such concepts as mercy and forgiveness remain as foreign to him as his casual sadism and cruelty is to humans. Syn occasionally suffers from bouts of insomnia (see Inflictions below), largely due to the use of sorcery, which can leave him weary. However, he learned meditation techniques during his travels in the East that help minimize the effects. During his travels in the East, Syn was introduction to the wilder, more chaotic sorcery practiced there, leading him to trade a hard won Nanorion gem to Slortar the old, the patron of the Knights of Tumbru, known in the west as the Warrior-Priests of Chaos, to gain the ability to work that style of magic, increasing his already considerable sorcerous power. Syn’s slender frame is knotted with lean muscle wrought by many arduous adventures, the scares of which mark his light bronze skin. His tapered, lobe-less ears and inhumanly angular handsome features mark his race, while his short raven mane frames striking sapphire eyes that often blaze with sorcerous hellfire and the mystical rune branded above his brow... the mark of his newly expanded magical abilities. Thanks again for your kind comments and interest! I've developed Syn's backstory over many years (since high school), which is where I got the idea to do a story based on his past adventures... thus the "Song of the Darkwolf".
