As a grandparent with 3 grandsons I can say I love the relationship you portray between the elderly woman and the young lad. The tiny knight looking over the boy's shoulder is an interesting thought; learning something about chivalry from Ivanhoe, perhaps? And, as is often the case with your pictures, I am now a bit more familiar with French Romanticism. =)
Thank you for sharing!

I add that this grandmother looks like a princess in the eyes of her grandson :)

The old lady in her finery has the air of a grand duchess, reliving better(?) times through the vehicle of reading to her modern grandson, maybe trying to impart some of the chivalric sentiment that she has seen depart from the world. The enthralled child's imagination vividly conjures the watchful knight...
I must confess, when reading Ivanhoe myself as a child, to being rather dismayed at the stereotypical portrayal of Saracens as villains ( I was raised where the crusaders were seen as the villains!) . Now every time i see a black knight, rather than recalling Coeur de Lion, I think of Monty Python! 😆

It is true that the biography of Richard Coeur de Lion deserves to be revisited beyond chivalric novels like Robin Hood. Just like you I love, Monty Python, holy grail :)

So sweet, captivating and longing. Reminds me of my grandmother reading stories and sharing the reading every morning early in the morning making us all wake up when the sun had just risen.

Thank you very much for your comments and your testimonial. My grandmother also read to me when she babysat me sometimes when I was a child.
