A very engaging character study portrait. A departure from what I've seen of your work in it's extreme realism. The choice of the drab background and use of DoF to emphasize the character in the foreground really works well. Thank you for including the quotation of Thomas Mann. It is indeed timely and thought-provoking.

one of the best military 3d figure renders I've seen.

Excellent. Never get enough period pieces. Shame tannenbaum didn't include a sling for the weapons in the infantry package. These came in really handy at times, particularly as the infantry were often portage for machinegun ammunition.
War isn't a cowardly escape from peace - it's an expedient excuse for activities that run counter to it. Might be a distinction without a difference.... :)

It sounded better than my true opinion ... having served ... state sanctioned homicide on an industrial scale.

I am not a fan of wars and weapons, but as a fan of History, I appreciate the historical true details of this character.

Your render really brings out the details of the clothing, really really like the shoes... Great character and work

Thank you - I wanted him to be near the end of the war and trying to work out "what happens now that all is lost" so the short brown boots were the proper choice, by that time in the war boot dye's and leather were in short supply. The uniform did all the heavy lifting in this image ... I just tweaked the character a little.

Ah a very well thought out character and scene. Imho, it is things like these that somehow carrythrough in the render on some level. Very thoughtful and great empathy with your work... I like it :)
