Description

Pink: "Giddyup, Poncho. Faster, Faster!" Poncho: "Just how fast do you think these cute little legs can go, princess?" ==AMY’S NOTES== This scene brought to you by the principle that sometimes simple works just fine :-) (A lesson I’m still struggling to learn, after trying dozens of backdrops for this scene!) (I never know what category to put stuff like this in. I realize "Animals" doesn't make much sense, but what other one would make more sense? I wish there was a category for "vignettes"!) Rendered in April 2022 using Firefly in Poser Pro 11.3 for Mac at 2048 × 1152 pixels. View full size on my blog. ==CREDITS== SCENE: Flink’s Instant Meadow 3. Flink’s Sky 2. CHARACTER: Pink and Poncho figures by CHK2033.

how much fun is this!!?!! i love the voice in my head that i hear when reading Poncho's response - literally had to wipe coffee off my chin [how unglam] from laughing...i might've put these two under the 'Toons' category, maybe? loving all those gorgeous, 'pixel-y fragrant' flowers too :))

Thanks so much for the comment, Giana! Glad the scene brought you a chuckle, and sorry about the coffee spill :-) I'd love to be able to hear what Poncho's voice sounds like in your head! I think you're probably right about the Comics/Cartoons category.

Thanks :-) I'm glad they're both having a good time and that Pink can apparently converse with Poncho, because otherwise she'd have no steering!

Absolutely adorable! What a fun & fragrant place for a ride! I don't know how you could have found a more perfect background!

Comics/Cartoons might be a good choice for a category.

Thanks so much! For scenes like this, I have to break out of my tendency to ask, "But where ARE they?" As in, where in a larger context might you come across a little patch of grass and flowers with the sky right behind it? Nowhere in "reality," but I guess it works in 3D space! I've used this concept for a couple of scene recently, and it's starting to make more sense to me, as is the concept of setting up little vignettes that aren't full-fledged background environments.

I'm not sure where my attachment to "realistic" comes from, as I'm definitely not interested in photorealistic renders. I'm the same way about lighting. Even though I love using stylized figures and props and going for more of a fantasy or toon look than anything "real," I still can't get behind lighting setups that aren't based on "real world" or at least "plausible" lighting (like pointing infinite lights upwards in a way the sun never shines). I guess we all have our weird hangups when it comes to making art :-)

The Comics/Cartoons category does seem like a better fit than Animals, so I switched it! Thanks :-)

Thanks so much for the comment! I took a whiff but all I could smell was slightly sweaty donkey. And maybe a slight hint of a floral finish :-)

Thanks for the comment! I think I've said this before, but getting expressiveness from these figures is an interesting challenge b/c they don't have a lot of facial morphs, so it makes me focus on body language, and that's always a learning experience!

I really know where you are coming from. I have spent countless times changing backgrounds or other things and I am positive that most of the time it wasn't necessary. And yes, sometimes simple is indeed best and it shows in this adorable scene of these 2 cuties. I agree about the categories too btw.

perpetualrevision

4:28PM | Sun, 24 April 2022

Thanks, RubyTuesday! Now that I've hit on the idea of a small terrain circle with a sky backdrop, I'll probably use it quite a few times, until I hit on some more ideas for simple backdrops! Well, I suppose I should also try using all those backdrop image packs I bought, in the hopes of working out how to use them! Some of them will probably show up as backdrop filler behind other prop sets, but some of them seem designed for you to composite a rendered figure into the backdrop, and that'll be the learning challenge! I'm esp. curious about how to get lights to look right, to match the backdrop. So we'll see how that goes!

Thing is, if you don't do a simple background you just wind up losing most of it as you frame the characters since they are the story here! As far as it goes, the field with flowers is a perfect pastoral landscape with the sky nicely framing Pink's wildly enthusiastic encouragement of a somewhat more sober Poncho. XD

Thank you for sharing! <3

Very true, Molly! I tried putting trees and a fence and various other things into this scene, but they were just cluttering up what I wanted you to focus on: the donkey and his rider!

I mentioned elsewhere that I have this hangup about "where are they?", which is something I think you can probably relate to b/c your characters are always clearly SOMEWHERE (not just standing in front of a random backdrop). But for a little toony vignette like this, it really just doesn't matter.

I suppose if I had a toony little farm set for characters like this to wander about in, that would work, but I don't, and I'm not in the mood right now to get lost in 3D modeling in order to create one. So instead I'm going to try and get used to the idea of backdrops that aren't anywhere in particular! I bought a set of little stage props called "Base Camp" to further push myself to do portraits and vignettes without worrying about "where they are" in a broader context!

Thanks so much for the comment! I like "whimsical" as an adjective for the kind of scenes I like to make!

You're welcome re: the link (although I think someone else beat me to it?) I'm pretty good at finding things and making hyperlinks, so I was happy to help :-)

Don't matter how fast your ride is able to go. It sure beats walking... :)

perpetualrevision

4:37PM | Sun, 24 April 2022

Esp. if your ride is a pudgy donkey who probably feels like a mobile sofa :-) I've had a few horses like that, and I definitely didn't mind going slow if I got to enjoy that comfy ride! Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the comment, Ute! I'm so sorry to hear about your health issues. I had a bout of "transient global amnesia" earlier in the week, and that really threw me for a loop, so I know how health issues of any kind can really mess with your system!
