Description

I just finished Dan Alban's tutorial on organic modeling from his bood Inside LightWave 6, and wow! With his reference images of front and side of the model, I was able to create (what I think is) a pretty good head. This is a good book even if you aren't a lightwave user (which I'm not). I am going to use this head on my new female poser model which will be for sale in the store sometime this month...I have to do a computer upgrade in before I can finish her! She was modeled and rendered in 3d studio max.

Very nice. She's cute. Looks kinda like Meredith Salenger. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Very nice work. Yeah looks like you followed the tutorial very closely its as good as Dan Albans own model. I am just wondering how you lit your model as you have basically managed to get the same sort of lighting as in the tutorial except he uses radiosity (this is not supported by max) and area lights. Did you use the same textures that came with the cd? great modelling considering the tutorial was lightwave based well done.

Excellent job!! I know nothing about 3DSM, but I can imagine this wasn't an easy task! I agree with dhc2nite about her likeness to Meredith Salenger. I was thinking the same thing when I saw her. I'll be looking forward to your new model! :)

Very exciting and original work. To me she looks like she could be the twin sister to Quinn Mallory on Sliders.

nick2k. and others... Thanks for all the praise! I can't really take it all though because it was only due to Dan's tutorial and the excelent reference material that I was able to get as close as I was. I didn't use the exact technique as him because I didn't have the same tool. I used surface tools in max and some mesh smooth in nurms mode. I am loving max 3.1! It was worth the upgrade. I didn't use the same textures that were on the CD because my UV mapping was somewhat different...I did use a cylindrical map though and I "borrowed" some of his lip bump maps. I will have to create my own before I sell the model, but I wanted to give a plug for Dan's book and my new model.... The hair wasn't mine....I think it's grey's hair model. You can fake radiosity in Max. There was a tutorial somewhere that I followed which does a resonable job of faking radiosity. Essentially, you take a sphere and scatter a bunch of incidence lights around it (I used 25 for this render). The scatter utility can be found at www.max3dstuff.com/new.html. You then turn the light way way down and turn shadows on. It takes a while to render, but it's worth it!

This is amazing. Well done! You've inspired me to learn yet even more about Max (as a rookie on it, there's so much to learn, so little time!!!!!!) But this is definitely going to inspire me! She's wonderful!

It looks like you have done a fantastic job , I might have to buy this one if it's priced in the same range as your Alora figure . She does look alot like Quin Mallory from sliders .
