Depite her age, Roseberry Featherkiel had advanced to be the Witch of the Valley, technically making her senior to all local witches, healers and herbwomen in the region. What she did, she did with passion and she used her powers wisely to serve the community, keeping at bay those who did not fit in (usually staring was enough, sometimes aided by a herbal potion to simulate a curse), but generally by serving the people around her. Another great instrument were the solstice events, which she would use to instigate changes, help to transmit information which she gathered more by obseving nature, reading old books and most often by simply listening to the people. Not that her crystal ball would not provide counsel, but for the folks in the valley these snippets of information needed some sharpening. But all in all, she always stuck to the truth, admittedly sometimes HER truth, but nevertheless straight and handy guidance. So, looking into her floating sphere, she would today tell them about the birth of a healthy boy to the miller (omitting the slight help of one oft he farmers), about the better than usual crop and many other little things that made the gathered crowd happy. For that, she’d put on her skimpiest dress to get all the young and mostly male disbelievers and armed herself with enough magic powder to cater for those looking for entertaining effects. And all that, because tonight, she would do something, that she had never done in her life before. She was going to lie to them. To them all. Because tomorrow some Vogons were about to make way for a hyperspace bypass, destroying the whole planet in one single blast by midday.
