Since adolescence, I have considered red winged blackbirds my favourite. I haven't seen one in decades. Loss of habitat, I suppose, is to blame. I live in cities. Excellent photograph of a much-missed creature.

Sorry to hear they are no longer in your city. We have a lot of parks where I live. One in particular is quite marshy and there are dozens upon dozens of red wings there year round. It's an amazing cacophony during breading. We had a pair come as far as our back yard this year and it was such a pleasure to have them hang out in the shrubs just outside our window.
