Description
Its been a while since I indulged my hobby of obscure myths and legends, so for today's picture I have turned to the Popol Vuh, the great foundational sacred narrative of the Kʼicheʼ people of Cuauhtēmallān ("The Place of Many Trees", now known as Guatemala), from long before the Conquest of the Aztec Empire. It includes, among other things, the tales of the exploits of the Hero Twins, Hunahpú and Xbalanqué,
In the tale of the twins, Xquic, the inquisitive daughter of one of the lords of Xibalba (the Mayan underworld), comes across a calabash tree bearing the severed head of Hun Hunahpu, a human whom the Lords of the underworld had sacrificed (for reasons too lengthy to describe here). The head instructs her to pick a fruit and as she does so the skull spits on her hand, and through this act she conceives the Twins...
I want back to some old runtime resources for this, so here is V4 strutting her stuff in the jungles of central America... A fair bit of retexturing to get some of the mats to work, but the old content is holding up remarkably well!

Love the picture which invites the viewer to try to interpret the relationship between the central character and her surroundings. When the story/myth depicted is read it all fits together very nicely. Thank you for sharing I've enjoyed viewing!
