Fjord, also fjord (Norwegian: fjord) is a narrow, winding and deeply cut into the land sea bay with rocky shores. The length of a fjord is several (most often tens) times greater than its width, and most of the banks are formed by rocks up to 1000 meters high. Most of the fjords are of tectonic origin and were created by an abrupt and sudden change in the direction in which the tectonic plates moved from the opposite direction to the opposite direction. As a result, numerous cracks and fractures form on the edges of the plates, already compressed by the prior counter-movement, which are filled with sea water. In this case a fjord can be as much as a hundred meters deep, and sometimes more than a kilometer deep. In some cases the formation of fjords is a result of the glaciers (during the Quaternary glaciation) processing river valleys and tectonic depressions with their subsequent flooding by water.
