Description

After Jacques-Louis David. I start a new series of 10 images, in no real order this time. it is a question of drawing up each time a portrait of a woman, strong enough to affirm her identity in a world dominated by patriarchy. These women of different eras, origins, and different ages continue to fight for their visibility, despite prejudice. My list is not exhaustive, there is so much to say; likewise, the dominant male gaze remains on the lookout under the presence, in each image, of an invisible man, who retains a share of power. Finally, each painting chosen places this fight for better visibility for women in a history of art largely shaped by men. Thank you for the view and your comments.

I love this character! A mature woman with a distinctive personality. I'm enjoying the whole series and really appreciate the theme behind it, but I don't always know what to say on each piece. Your series are always so thoughtful and thought-provoking!

This time, I wanted to show the image of the woman who has political power and who knows how to convince by her oratorical force. I chose a woman of a certain age, as if life experience could be valuable in defending her fellow citizens. On the other hand, I didn't want anyone to be able to identify her with a particular person or with a particular political party; she is an advocate. In this sense, I chose the painting by David, Le Serment du Jeu de paume, to remind us that if the French Revolution allowed the drafting of the rights of man and of the citizen, on the other hand it largely silenced the rights of the woman, as Olympe de Gouges had written them, for example. the invisible man is relegated to the role of bodyguard.

Speaker in parlament - in former times unthinkable, but nowadays they conquered their places and do it very well.

Ouais, si les femmes en politique ont longtemps été tenues à l'écart, certaines n'ont pas forcément laissé une image très positive. Je pense à M. Thatcher...

This picture reminds me that in my own country we have yet to elect a woman to the lightest office in the land although women have served in that role in many other countries. =(

On a happier note, I have mentioned before but will again: you do really lovely mature people! Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed viewing!

I don't know why, I found that this woman reminded me a little of Robespierre; perhaps the painting in the background which represents the oath of the Jeu de Paume. Thanks again for your compliment.
