Ater Henrik Agren
I start a new series of 10 images, in no real order this time. it is a question of drawing up each time a portrait of a woman, strong enough to affirm her identity in a world dominated by patriarchy. These women of different eras, origins, and different ages continue to fight for their visibility, despite prejudice. My list is not exhaustive, there is so much to say; likewise, the dominant male gaze remains on the lookout under the presence, in each image, of an invisible man, who retains a share of power. Finally, each painting chosen places this fight for better visibility for women in a history of art largely shaped by men.

the invisible man is materialized by Neil Armstrong's outfit, while the woman astronaut was inspired by Mae carol Jemison. Finally, Henrik Agren's science fiction painting suggests the evolution of possible situations in these particular professions linked to the exploration of space.

You always double the pleasure of this trip by the approval of your comments. Reading you over the images, especially during a series, is a bit like taking the Trans-Siberian in good company: we know it will be full of adventures and unexpected events, but the shared human experience is well worth the challenge, this represents.

I love that the woman is in a more futuristic, streamlined space suit than the invisible man who is tied to the past male prominence in space flight and wears a more antique suit. It makes me nuts that a woman could not participate in EVA on the ISS because there was not enough pressure suits provided that would properly fit them. >.<
