As a follow-up to their discussion after hearing that the main toilet blocks at St Tibb's will remain closed indefinitely, four girls from form 8W decide that they will compile a statement detailing their feelings about the situation and how it is impacting on their time at school. Their biggest fear is that the situation will not be any better after Summer Break and the temporary solution will continue. Holly Hewson, being the best writer of the group, takes a note of every point the group brings up and spends the majority of her evening writing them all into a coherent and, she hopes, persuasive piece of writing. The next morning, she requests from Vera, secretary to the Head of Year 8, if the four girls can have some time with Mrs Bailey, the headmistress of their Year Group, to which Vera grants the girls ten minutes before Registration the next day. All four girls (Holly, Crystal Fadika, Nasira Yousefi, and Héloïse Fournier) turn up at the appointed time outside of Vera's office, through which they must pass to enter Mrs Bailey's office, and choose who should read out the statement while standing out in the waiting area. Holly offers the printed statement around to anyone who wishes to take it and read it out to their Head of Year. Crystal claims that when she is stressed (such as when asked to speak formally) she lapses into sounding Scouse, Nasira thinks her accent is far too common compared to the posher girls, and Héloïse says her French accent is too strong, so it is down to Holly, once again, to come to the rescue. Although she doesn't appreciate how much the other three are letting her do so much of the work, she is secretly pleased that they consider she has the best speaking/reading voice. The other three will, of course, be standing right beside Holly, giving her support and encouragement as she reads out the text to Mrs Bailey. All sorted, Holly turns and knocks on the door to the Year 8 administration office, and hopes that their action will bring just how awful their situation is to someone high up in the school's chain-of-command and improve things for every student at St Tibb's.
