Description
Her lover was lost at sea.
Heartbroken, she played the harp daily, hoping the music would somehow guide him back to her.
Villagers told of how the notes from her harp colored their lives : some days, the notes were fun and lively, and it brought smiles to their faces; other days, the notes were full of despair and sadness, and it made them cry.
Day after day, month after month, and year after year.
Till one day, the music stopped.
And the whole village wept. For they knew that nothing could come in between her and her melodies except Death itself.
Only the most trusted servants were allowed to prepare her remains and arrange for her funeral. She was interned underneath an old oak tree that, according to some, was where he proposed to her.
Years later, stories emerged of how she was found slumped over her cherished harp.
Some said she died of poor health, others said she perished due to a broken heart. Yet others insisted she was poisoned.
Most agreed, however, that she was found with an angelic smile on her lips.
And that she was clutching a handful of shells that were still wet.
